Formula 1 Coverage for Streaming Platforms
The famous racing championship is hosted by FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile), which strikes a deal every few years with various networks for TV coverage.
If you want to watch the Grand Prix races right from the comfort of your own home, you need to be aware of what network has broadcasting rights in your country. On top of that, you need to know which Firestick applications feature these channels in their roster.
Fortunately, we have done all the hard work for you and put them in a neatly arranged list so that you can just take your pick. Keep in mind that some applications require a TV subscription from a provider in your country. There is no platform that exclusively streams Formula 1 races, but if you are a sports fan, you will definitely enjoy the added live and on-demand content.
If you are ready to watch this prestigious championship on your Firestick, just scroll down to your country in the list below and take a look at the available streaming platforms.
Formula 1 Streaming on Firestick in the United States
F1 fans from the United States might already be aware that FIA struck a deal with the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) for most of their races and championship content. This partnership started in 2017, and it was extended for another three years in 2019.
Therefore, American viewers know for a fact that until 2022 they can watch all the Formula 1 events on the ESPN sports channel. Select free-to-air content is also available on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) channel.
ESPN for Fire TV App Overview
Pay-TV channels all over the United States have an accompanying TV Everywhere app, which helps them stream their content to a larger number of viewers. This sports channel also has its own app, which is available on Firestick under the name of ESPN for Fire TV.
As long as you have a TV subscription from a US provider, you can stream their content 24/7 without any extra cost. This includes all of their Formula 1 coverage, from races to practice sessions and qualifying events.
On top of that, ESPN has a large library of on-demand sports content that might be of interest to you. There is even an upgrade you can add to this app called ESPN+. However, if you are only interested in F1 events, there is no need to get it.
ABC App Overview
As we have mentioned before, ABC also has simultaneous broadcasting rights for certain events. Their streaming platform is similar to ESPN for Fire TV since it is based on the same TV Everywhere interface.
This also means that the login process is the same: you will need an active US TV subscription to access their content. Considering that the same requirements apply for both applications, we choose the ESPN app for Formula 1 content.
With that being said, if you are interested in entertainment, ABC is well known for high-quality original content. Some shows that might interest you from this network are Lost, the Good Doctor, Desperate Housewives, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Last Man Standing.
Sling
In case you do not have a TV subscription and you would prefer not to get an extra cable in your house, then you can opt for live TV streaming platforms. A very well-known app available on Firestick is Sling, which fortunately includes ESPN, ESPN 2, and ESPN 3 in one of their packages.
This plan is called Sling Orange, and it offers over 30 TV channels at a low price of $30 per month. Apart from that, you receive 10 hours of cloud storage for recording your favorite shows, including F1 races.
This is the most budget-friendly live TV app on our list of US apps. Therefore, if you are only interested in Formula 1 content, then you should definitely take a look at their plans. You can update this plan according to your needs with additional packages such as Sports Extra, priced at $10 per month.
With this add-on, you can get access to more sports channels. We particularly like this upgrade for Formula 1 coverage because it offers you the extra ESPNews channel. Here you can watch an in-depth analysis of the Grand Prix events, so you get a better understanding of the contestants’ capabilities.
Apart from that, you can choose to add 40 extra hours of storage with the Cloud DVR Plus update priced at $5 per month.
FuboTV App Overview
FuboTV is another popular live TV streaming application that is available for multiple Fire TV devices, including Firestick. Their Standard package offers over 110 channels, including both ESPN and ESPN 2, and ABC. You are sure to enjoy the large variety of other sports channels available in this plan.
A benefit of subscribing to FuboTV is that you receive all of these channels and 250 hours of cloud DVR storage, all for the price of $59.99 per month. If you happen to not be at home when one of the main races airs, you can easily record it for later with this large amount of storage space.
This platform also offers an upgrade plan called Family, which gives you the option to watch three simultaneous streams at the same time. In case you plan to share this subscription with multiple people, you can opt for this plan which is priced at $64.99 per month.
Hulu + Live TV App Overview
If you have had your Firestick for a while, chances are you already know about the large selection of original content from Hulu. As one of the oldest and most reputable VOD platforms available on the market, Hulu is well worth the money for its entertainment content.
However, what you might not know yet is that Hulu offers a Hulu + Live TV package that includes over 65 TV channels. Since both Hulu and ESPN are part of The Walt Disney Company, the brands have partnered up to offer all ESPN channels on the streaming app.
The price point for this plan is $54.99 per month, which includes 50 hours of cloud DVR storage. Much like Sling, Hulu offers an add-on to this storage which maxes out at 200 hours. You can opt for this upgrade called Enhanced Cloud DVR for an extra $9.99 per month.
Interestingly enough, Hulu has in their on-demand library some Formula 1 content as well. Therefore, you can choose to watch some movies and documentaries when ESPN is not airing any F1 race.
YouTube TV App Overview
YouTube is a famous content company that has seen more and more success over the years. This brand has also seen the major potential in streaming live TV channels, which is why they offer a package of over 70 channels in their YouTube TV application. Their plan costs $49.99 and is equipped with ESPN, ESPNews, and ABC channels.
We like that, unlike other platforms on our list, YouTube offers an unlimited amount of cloud DVR space to its users. In case you have a very busy schedule and can’t make it in time to watch F1 content at the air time, you can easily record all of the channels that cover Formula 1. You can also access hundreds of hours of on-demand YouTube content, which includes previous Grand Prix races.
The available image quality for the YouTube TV channels is 720p 60fps, which can only be topped by the 1080p streams in the ESPN for Fire TV platform.
Sidenote: If you have a YouTube TV, a Sling, or a Hulu + Live TV subscription, you can use it to log into the ESPN for Fire TV app without additional costs. You might choose to do so in order to improve the display quality and access all the on-demand ESPN content that is not available anywhere else.
Formula 1 Streaming on Firestick in the United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom and Ireland, there is another network that has streaming rights up until 2024. We are talking about Sky Sports, which has exclusive rights to air all of the Formula 1 content available from FIA.
Other than that, Channel 4 can air select races and highlights, such as the Emirates Formula 1 70th Anniversary Grand Prix and Pirelli British Grand Prix. You can access these streams with the All 4 app available on Firestick, but you will need a UK TV subscription to activate it.
As for all the other content available on Sky Sports, you will need a subscription to their Sky Go streaming platform. Unfortunately, this application is not available for Fire TV, so you will need another device to stream.
Formula 1 Streaming on Firestick in India
In India, FIA has given the broadcasting rights for the Formula 1 championship to the Star Sports network. This is the most well-known sports channel locally, so it is only natural that they received the rights to broadcast the Grand Prix races live.
If you want to get access to all of the qualifying, practice sessions, and races available on Star Sports in streaming format, you will need a Disney+ Hotstar subscription. Whether you choose the VIP package priced at ₹399 per year or the Premium option with a price point of ₹1499 per year, you can expect to get full access to the Star Sports channels.
All of the Star Sports roster is available on this streaming platform, including HD versions of Star Sports Select 1 and Star Sports Select 2. These channels have English commentary, but you will be able to watch the F1 races with regional commentary on the other channels available.
Final Words
If you have a Firestick device, you get access to dozens of quality streaming apps that provide all types of content, from entertainment shows to sports events. Even though FIA has not yet created a streaming platform for all of its Formula 1 content, there are still plenty of alternatives available for you to choose from.
Today’s article presents a full list of streaming apps that cover F1 races in the United States, the United Kingdom, and India. The only thing left to do is for you to choose your favorite one and install it on your Firestick right from the Amazon Appstore!
